Very few places in the world have captivated me as much as the Riviera Maya. The land radiates captivating energy, the tropical weather is also very special, as well as the humidity of the jungle, which blends with the palms and the sunrays that kiss us when we go to the beach.
There are some spots still untouched by the mass tourism and a clear example us Punta Allen. The people who live in this small fishermen town live isolated, in one of the ends of the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve. There are few people who know how to appreciate the singular beauty of a place like this, in the wild, full of animals and plants, without the facilities and amenities for the tourism, and a peaceful spot where every foreigner is welcome.
The lighthouse is located at the end of the town. It is not designed for giving access to tourists, but if you can make it to the top you will have the
privilege of experiencing the spectacular view to the jungle that connects with the sea on one extreme and with the lagoon on the other.
If you are longing to find isolated, peaceful places, Holbox is a great option. Despite the fact that the island is already very touristic, it has some spots that are definitely worth visiting to take some time apart. A bicycle is essential to get around and cover the island from end to end.
Punta Mosquito is a very good place to witness the colors of the clouds in the sunset. In order to get to the farthest end of the island, it is better to leave the bike since you will need to enter the water at some points. There are areas where the low tide creates small islets of crystalline waters where you can swim.
There are very few places for camping, but if you want to avoid the crowds of the touristic areas and resorts, the best you can do is to look for a quiet place far away from the bustle.
